We are always so proud to share the stories of our dogs and puppies with people. Each of them are an inspiration in their own way, each of them brings a smile to your face, each of them is a survivor. We are very pleased to share these two stories that have been published this month, November, in the AZ Foothills Magazine. We thank everyone who made it possible to share their stories to help them find their forever homes.
Original Story 01/09/2012 – from Fox 10 News:
You wonder what kind of person could do something like this.
A little Yorkie puppy was rescued after being found badly beaten and abandoned in a Tempe dumpster. The puppy was discovered Sunday in a strip mall parking lot near Mill and Southern, after somebody noticed whimpering coming from the dumpster.
She weighs only 3 pounds and was badly abused.
She has a broken jaw and one of her eyes was dislodged from her socket.
The pup is being cared for at the Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue.
“The real tragedy is this injury could have happened as long as a week and the owners did nothing about it. And in the end, they wrote her off, took her dog bed, her, all of her belongings and put them in a dumpster in an old dumpster and left her to die or for dead,” says Kathy Swaney from Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue. “It was horrific. You could see that her jaw was tilted. Her eye was sitting on her cheekbone.”
The person who did this to the puppy is still out there.
If you know anything about this case — you’re urged to call Tempe police.

Tempe had a great first night after her complicated surgery to remove her eye and repair her broken jaw. She is a fiesty little girl with much personality that we can already see shining through. Today she is enjoying a lot of cuddle time with the founder of Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue; Kathy Swaney. Tempe’s stitches where her eye was removed look great and even with her bottom jaw broken and wired together, she is’nt letting that stop her from enjoying a meal!
Tempe has a visit with Dr. Alber at Prestige Animal Clinic this week. She got her stitches taken out from where her eye was. She looks fabulous and is in amazing spirits.
She is going to be fostered by Kathy (founder of Valley of the Sun) and her family until a forever home is selected. Tempe loves to lounge on Kathy’s couch and roll over for belly rubs. She runs around the house and that long tail of hers never stops wagging.
Tempe will need future surgery (before she goes to her new home) to remove the wires from her bottom jaw when the bone is healed.
Tempe’s fans and supporters all across the country has raised an amazing $1,000 REWARD for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who left Tempe in the dumpster. Channel 15 News announced our reward to the public.
If anyone has any information please call the Tempe Police Department at: 480-350-8311

17 pit bulls seized from Arizona City home | azfamily.com
Wednesday, July 27th Rescue Story:
Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue now has all but 3 of the 17 pitbulls that were seized from very poor living conditions in Arizona City 3 weeks ago. The remaining 3 pitbulls are awaiting a professional evaluation which will be completed by Friday. All of the dogs taken into our rescue from this situation are extrmely sweet! All of the dogs rescued have now been vet checked and vaccinated. Some of the dogs are in a temporary boarding facility until we can find them a private foster home. Thank you to Mountain View Boarding for giving these great dogs amazing care at a discounted price!
We URGENTLY need foster homes for all of the dogs mentioned below as well as donations to help support and care for the dogs. Basic care and boarding for this group of dogs is going to be about $4,500 for the first month with us.
-See some dogs below on our “Adoptable Dogs” page-
We have 4 puppies that are about 10 weeks old and are very healthy, active and curious pups. (2 adopted / 2 available – gretchen and capone)
2 brothers that are about 5 months old are very soft natured and appropriately submissive. (1 adopted / 1 available – piper)
A beautiful blue and white 6 month old girl that is outgoing and very happy. (Adopted – Stormy)
A female pit that is about 1 year old. She is very sweet and need some TLC to build her confidence. (Molly)
A female that is between 2 and 3 years old. She is also very sweet and will need some TLC to build her confidence. (Jazzy)
A 1 year old tiny female came into animal control and gave birth a few days later. Unfortunately none survived, however mom is doing wonderful. She is in one of our private foster homes with other dogs and is already playing with the other 2 dogs and loving on her new foster family. (miss molly)
Our 5 year old female pit loves to give kisses and would love to be able to get out and go for walks. (Adopted – phoenix)
The adult male is about 2 years old and he is very sweet and confident. (Adopted-Rocky)
All of these dogs have lived with eachother in an open yard. They will all do great with another dog of the opposite sex.
In addition to these dogs rescued from the seizure, We also took in 6 orphan 3wk old bottle feeder pups. They were left in a box at the animal control night drop off. These puppies were temporarily nuring with the momma pit that lost her puppies that we also rescued. The momma pit was under nurished so we felt it was best to give her the best opportunity to recover from her neglectful past and relieve her from these puppies.
